Absolutely because killing off the lead character’s daughter will just make for a happy fun show. “Hey Beckett, now that my kid is dead, we can have sex on the Kitchen floor ALL THE TIME. PARTY IN THE LOFT!” *sarcasm switch, off*
It’s his daughter. He loves her, and they are close. If she moved far away, it would be unrealistic for him not to occupy even MORE time talking about her, calling her, missing her. If she DIED? Castle would be irrevocably changed. Martha too. Even Beckett. So yeah, even if you don’t like Alexis, this is a very bad idea.
Have you even WATCHED Target or Hunt?
It wasn’t exactly subtext that losing his daughter would ultimately be Castle’s downfall. He would be CRUSHED!
Also, Alexis is so NOT a waste of space. God it’s like haters haven’t even been watching the same show as I have. Alexis brings out Castle’s softer, fatherly side, which is a big part of why Kate fell for him in the first place. She is no more of a waste than Esposito, Ryan, or Martha. She adds REALITY to this show like all of those characters. There is now way in HELL that she is a waste of space OR time.
What is wrong with all the haters?
Everything above plus more. Being Alexis’s dad was the defining life experience for Castle. She’s the positive contrast to Beckett’s unexpected loss of her mother. She’s what reined Castle in during his playboy-gone-wild phases, wanting to not let her down like Martha did him at times. Alexis was his playmate that helped him avoid cynicism when he was dating bimbettes and society types that just wanted to be seen on the arm of a rich, handsome man. In several very important ways, she shaped him into the man Beckett fell in love with. And it was their early interactions that helped Beckett start to realize Castle could be a better man than the one she saw at the precinct.
"She’s the positive contrast to Beckett’s unexpected loss of her mother." wow.
